Getting Chimpeon Working With a Game

If Chimpeon does not automate a game, perform each of the following actions in turn. Check to see if Chimpeon works after each action:

  1. Ensure Chimpeon is started - press the Start button or the Start hot key.
  2. Ensure the Send To setting contains the name of the game you're playing.
  3. Ensure the correct window of a game is selected for the Send To setting. Use the Find Send To button to locate a window within a game.
  4. Ensure applicable Chimpeon Groups and Actions have their Active setting enabled (ticked).
  5. For certain games, keys and mouse clicks sent by Chimpeon are only received if the game is the focussed (active) window. Focus the game window!
  6. Launch Chimpeon as an Administrator... Right-click the shortcut then select Run as Administrator.
  7. For each Action try each Method setting (1, 2, 3) with the Attach to 'Send To' setting disabled (blank). Method 3 is compatible with most games.
  8. For each Action try each Method setting (1, 2, 3) with the Attach to 'Send To' setting enabled (ticked). Method 3 is compatible with most games.
  9. Specify a Duration (e.g. 100) for all Actions.
  10. Refresh Group Pixel Colors and/or record the X, Y positions again. If your screen resolution has changed, you'll probably need to do this! Read the Automating a Game Spell PDF guide for help with doing this.
  11. Make sure your Windows Scaling Level is set to 100%. If it isn't it can sometimes prevent the correct pixel color being selected. Control Panel > Display > Set A Custom Scaling Level.
  12. Make sure your game's Scaling Level is set to 100% or 1.0. If it isn't it can sometimes prevent the correct pixel color being selected.
  13. Make sure your antivirus software isn't preventing Chimpeon sending keystrokes and mouse clicks to your game. Make Chimpeon an exception in your antivirus software, or temporarily exit or disable your antivirus software.
  14. Set the Compatibility Mode for the Chimpeon program file (chimpeon.exe) or the Chimpeon shortcut to Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8. See below.

Streaming

If you are using Chimpeon with streaming and Trigger Pixels aren't being triggered, perform the following actions:

  • Change the Colour/Range to -5 and +5 for each Trigger Pixel. This may be required because colours in the stream can change slightly. If necessary, decrease the negative value and increase the positive value of the Colour/Range until your Trigger Pixels are triggered reliably.
  • Increase the Radius setting value (in the Trigger Pixel(s) window) so Chimpeon looks for a Trigger Pixel within a radius and not just a fixed location. This may be required because the location of pixels in the stream window have a tendancy to move. Start with a Radius setting of 1 then increase if required.

Windows Compatibility Mode

If you use Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 10, Chimpeon may not operate with certain games. If none of the above actions worked, this can sometimes be resolved by setting the compatibility mode for Chimpeon.exe to Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8. To do this, perform the following actions:

  1. Exit Chimpeon.
  2. Locate chimpeon.exe (default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Chimpeon\) or a Chimpeon shortcut.
  3. Right-click the exe or shortcut then select Properties to open the Chimpeon Properties window (see Fig. below).
  4. Click the Compatibility tab.
  5. Click the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" checkbox to add a tick to it.
  6. Click the list box below then select Windows XP (or Windows XP (Service Pack 3) or Windows XP (Service Pack 2)).
  7. Click the OK button to close the Chimpeon Properties window.
  8. Launch and Start Chimpeon.
