Adding World of Warcraft (WOW) to Steam

Discover how to add World of Warcraft to Steam with this quick and easy guide

Adding World of Warcraft (WOW) to Steam image

World of Warcraft (WOW) is not a native Steam game and it must be manually added to the Steam Library. However, because the Battle.net application is used to launch WOW, additional actions must be performed before you can play and stream WOW using Steam. The following instructions enable this:

  1. Open the Battle.net application.
  2. Click the Blizzard icon at the top-left of the Battle.net window.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. In the General tab, change the "On Game Launch" setting to "Exit Battle.net App completely".
  5. Uncheck "Show a brief countdown instead of closing immediately".
  6. Uncheck "Launch Battle.net when I start your computer".
  7. Click Done.
  8. Exit the Battle.net application.
  9. Open Steam on the PC where Battle.net (and WOW) is installed.
  10. Click the Games menu then click the "Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library" option.
  11. In the Add a Game window click the Browse button.
  12. Navigate to where the Battlenet application is installed...
    • Win 32bit default = C:\Program Files\Battle.net\
    • Win 64bit default = C:\Program Files (x86)\Battle.net\
  13. Click the Battle.net application (NOT the Battle.net Launcher).
  14. Click the Open button.
  15. Make sure Battle.net is checked (the one you just added NOT the instance that may have previously been in the list).
  16. Click the Add Selected Programs button.
  17. Click the Games menu then click the "View Games Library" option then the Home option.
  18. Right-click Battle.net in the game list on the left then click the "Properties" option.
  19. Change the title (the top field) to World of Warcraft or whatever name you prefer.
  20. In the Target field, insert a space AFTER the last quotation mark then specify battlenet://WoW
    e.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Battle.net.exe" battlenet://WoW
  21. Click close button (X).

You can now launch World of Warcraft using Steam which allows you to play the game and stream it using Steam In-Home Streaming.

After clicking the World of Warcraft Play button in Steam, the Battle.net application will launch. In this, click the Play button to launch World of Warcraft.
